Steps & Walkways in the Baltimore Area

Maryland yards are rarely flat. Steps and walkways are how the whole property joins up.

The connective tissue of the yard

The patio is the destination; the steps and walkways are how life actually moves, from the driveway to the door, the deck to the fire pit, the kitchen down to the pool. We build them in stone and pavers with real footings under the steps, comfortable risers, and curves that follow how people walk rather than how a ruler draws.

Lit, railed, and safe at midnight

A stair run you cannot see at night is a liability with a view. Our signature stair work builds the lighting into the masonry itself, look at the night photo above, and finishes with iron rails where the grade demands them. It is the most complimented thing we build, and the most used.

Questions we hear

Our front steps are pulling away from the house. Can you rebuild them?

Yes, that is classic footing failure, and the fix is rebuilding on a proper foundation rather than mudjacking the symptom. The new stoop can match the house brick or contrast in stone; either way it stops moving.

How wide should a walkway be?

Four feet lets two people walk together; three feet is a single file garden path. Main routes get width, side paths get charm, mixing the two is what makes a yard feel designed.

Do you light every stair project?

We propose it every time the stairs will be used after dinner, which is nearly always. Lighting built into the masonry costs a fraction at build time of what it costs as a retrofit, and it is the difference between stairs you use at night and stairs you avoid.
