DreamScapes Masonry and Concrete
The reason a patio gets used in March and October, not just July.

Maryland gives you maybe four easy patio months; a fire feature roughly doubles them. That is the honest math behind the most requested thing we build. A full height stone fireplace turns a patio into an outdoor room with a focal wall; a built in fire pit turns it into a circle everyone drifts toward. Either way, the stone does the work a portable fire bowl never will.
Our fireplaces are full masonry, footed, veneered in natural stone, capped and lit. Our fire pits are built into the patio with stone surrounds and caps wide enough for feet and drinks. Look at the night photos: the circular bluestone pad with the fireplace glowing at its center is exactly the kind of project this page exists for.
A fireplace is a room: directional, dramatic, a wall of warmth with your name on it. A fire pit is a circle: social, flexible, seats a crowd. Budget usually points the same way, pits cost less, but yards and families point clearer. Tell us how you host and the answer tends to fall out on its own.
Wood is ritual, the smell, the crackle, the tending. Gas is a switch, instant on, instant off, no smoke drifting at the neighbors. We build both, and we will be straight about what each means for how often you will actually use it.
Usually, yes, if the existing base is sound we cut in cleanly and match or deliberately contrast the surround. We will tell you honestly if the existing patio is not worth building on.
